How do I create a TikTok filter directly on the TikTok mobile application?

Since November 2023, TikTok has released a major new feature on its application, offering the possibility to create a TikTok filter on the mobile application without going through Effect House. This will open up the creation of custom filters on TikTok without any knowledge of augmented reality or AR software.

Creating a TikTok filter on the TikTok application is now possible for everyone. Although the functionality is easier to access and simpler than the Effect HouseIt allows you to create a huge variety of TikTok filters, using templates and interactions to boost the effect.

Content creators will be able to create customisable TikTok 100% filters without having to download and master the Effect House software, which required a certain amount of knowledge. Furthermore, creating a TikTok filter on the mobile application does not allow for very advanced and developed effects, as it requires a lot of time and coding.

6 steps to creating a TikTok filter on the mobile app

1- In the TikTok application, click on the + button to create a video.

2- Make sure you are on the 15s, 60s or 10 min video creation templates (not on the photo or text templates).

3- Click on the effects icon at the bottom left.

4- Go to the "Create" tab

5- You have the choice of creating a TikTok filter on the mobile application from a template that has already been designed, with logic and interactions already created.

These templates can be randoms, quizzes, challenges and so on. All you have to do is upload your images and write your text before publishing it.

5(bis)- The other option is to start from scratch and create your own filter on the TikTok app, using your own images and interactions. For example, you can add images around your head, choosing their size and location. To do this, click on the box containing the "+".

6- Publish the TikTok filter on the application

When you're happy with the result, all you have to do is publish it. To do this, you need to invent a name for your effect that gives a clue to the type of filter you've created.

Then click on "publish" and your effect will be available to all designers afterwards.
