The market for augmented reality and its use in 2023
Ipsos has published a study carried out in April and May on trends in the market for augmented reality and virtual reality. Its study was based on responses from 21,000 people under the age of 75 in 29 countries. In this article, we will focus on the results on augmented reality and the evolution of people's opinions on this new technology.
The countries most familiar with augmented reality
To our great surprise, emerging countries are the countries with the most people familiar with augmented reality. More than 60% of the population in China, Peru, Mexico, South Africa and Saudi Arabia are familiar with augmented reality.
On the other hand, the proportion of people familiar with AR in countries considered to be rich (including European countries) does not exceed 60%.
This can be explained by the importance of new technologies in emerging countries, which want to develop in technological markets that are untapped in rich countries. It should be noted, however, that 61% of those questioned said they were familiar with augmented reality.
As far as the type of population familiar with augmented reality is concerned, a definite profile is emerging. Men under the age of 35 with high incomes and long studies are more familiar with augmented reality.

The evolving impact of augmented reality on our daily lives
In the study, respondents were asked to select the various uses of augmented and virtual reality that will have an impact on their daily lives over the next 10 years.
Respondents expect to use AR in virtual learning, virtual entertainment, the world of work and video games. There is no great difference between each type of AR use, so we can guess that respondents know that their lives will be impacted by new technologies in the next 10 years.
Once again, it is the emerging countries that understand that augmented reality is going to be part of our daily lives and will help users in their way of life.
However, augmented reality is already very much a part of our lives, as it is integrated into the applications of certain social networks. In fact, Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat filters are all augmented reality filters. Brands and users regularly use them to add effects to posted photos and videos. Our agency specialises in creating AR filters for social networks. If you would like to create a filter for your brand, please fill in this form so that we can contact you.
Developments in the use of augmented reality with AR headsets and glasses
According to another study by Statista Market Insights on the use of augmented reality headsets and glasses worldwide. For the time being, in 2023, the study reveals that only 22.8 million people will be using augmented reality headsets and glasses. But this figure is logical, since very few companies have yet launched into this market for individuals. However, Statista predicts a huge increase in the number of users over the next few years as the market begins to develop. By 2024, around 50 million people will be using augmented reality headsets and glasses, rising to over 90 million by 2027.
So augmented reality is still a niche market that is set to grow significantly over the next few years. However, people around the world are still familiar with the subject and know that this new technology will have a major impact on our daily lives.
